Youth Council Meeting

September 19, 2010

 

 

Notes:

·         80/80 points and community services points count for youth council attendance

·         Fund Raising

o   Ornaments – looked at company to do aluminum cut-out ornaments for fund-raising

o   Applebee’s – maybe fall and not on a food share day; check on Applebee’s location in Lewisville; check on Troop 753 and 876 calendar; book Lewisville early as may get more traffic

o   The kids like working and making things, as opposed to selling things

o   Raising money from the outside world – try that more and get more ideas

o   “Green” Car Wash

o   Throw birthday parties for people

·         Events / Activities

o   Christmas party

o   Graduation party

o   Lock-in

§  Group Dynamics – always require a min of 25

§  Rosemeade – all night lock-in, min fee to kids, invite friends

o   Six Flags – either Holiday in the Park, weekends, springtime

o   Hiking / walk down greenbelt – do that again

o   Halloween – haunted house but not on Sunday of Halloween, maybe the week before

o   Throw birthday parties for people

o   Group trip to Medival Times, maybe with parents

o   Laser tag

o   Whirly ball

o   Main event

o   Youth Madness (summer)

o   Speed Zone

o   Putt Putt with go carts

o   Scavenger Hunt – photo scavenger hunt, time limit, points to earn, kids had to look at the list and decide

o   Appetizer dinner / night out

o   Progressive supper

o   Rock climbing – Indoor, Exposure

o   Amazing Jakes

o   Studio Movie Grill – with group

o   Special movies that are screened by a group of youth and then bring their youth to see it in a group

o   80/80 Trip

§  Schlitterbaun 1 day and 1 day floating; and find a church in the area

§  Sea World in San Antonio

§  Ski Trip

o   Kelly gifted back her DJ prize to the youth – think about ways to use it either at youth lock-in at Rosemeade or as an outreach

·         Mission

o   Clothes Closet for Carrollton / Farmers Branch PTA; always need coats, jackets, shoes

o   Can food drives

o   During food share, adding toys if they have children, maybe during Christmas time; also add something special at different times of year not during traditional holidays that church members help with, i.e. Valentine Days

o   Police do drive for stuffed animals

o   Working in the community garden

·         Need a parent and youth to volunteer to call and remind bringing snack supper and thank them.  Answer questions.  Calling done normally on Wednesday – KAREN CHRISTIANSEN AND EVAN VOLUNTEERED

·         Need to stock up frig / drinks – SPENCER WEBB VOLUNTEERED

·         Youth to provide ideas on fundraising they would like to do

·         Investigate a Methodist church in the Denver ski area

·         Investigate how to get “free” tickets to Studio Movie Grill – www.studiomoviegrill.net/addisonend/coupon

·         Sign ups for snack supper – need to sign up
